Dr. Shaban Mayanja, DAAD Lecturer for German Studies at the University of Nairobi in Kenya, is leaving his position after six years influencing German studies in Kenya and beyond.

Those are his words of farewell:

"During my tenure German Studies continued to grow in the region. We introduced German Language programmes at Pwani and Karatina University as well as at the University of Dar es Salaam. We also support the new German Language programme at the University of Bujumbura in Burundi.

In addition, we successfully organized three DAAD-funded regional conferences on German Studies, established the Association of East and Central African Scholars of German Studies (GOZA) and published two academic journals. Most importantly, our Masters Programme at the University of Nairobi has now become the hub for German Studies in the region hosting 10 DAAD scholars from eight different African countries."
