The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is calling for applications for a German Research Chair for "Mathematics and its Applications" at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in Rwanda. In the coming years, the research chair will promote higher education and research in mathematics in Africa.

The call addresses mathematicians worldwide who hold a PhD, demonstrably conduct application-related research and have at least several years of experience in research and teaching as well as training students and (ideally) doctoral candidates.

AIMS Rwanda is part of the pan-African AIMS Next Einstein Initiative which seeks to establish a coordinated network of supra-regional centres of excellence in mathematics across Africa.

This call is aimed at postdoctoral mathematicians from any country who have an internationally recognized research record, several years of experience in research and teaching as well as in training students and (ideally) doctoral candidates. Applicants should conduct application-related research in areas that have the potential of contributing to the development of Africa.

The research chair is funded with a total of €560,000 for a four-year period. A long-term establishment of the research chair at AIMS Rwanda is intended.

The closing date for applications is 15 May 2020. More details on the programme and the application specifications can be found on the website of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation:
