The DAAD Regional Office for Africa is proud to announce the first out of four DINNER TALKS we are presenting to you this year.

Dinner Talks are an event format introducing a renowned scientist from Germany with a subject-specific presentation on a topic relevant to our time.

Afterwards, we encourage our audience - you - to engage with the scientist on issues raised during the talk, not least to initiate and foster potential future collaborations.

We are excited to start our new series with:

Our House is on Fire - Planetary Health as a New Scientific Approach to Understanding and Addressing The Environmental Crisis

Humankind wages a war against nature – and risks our very survival in the process. Though the average global citizen’s health has improved over the past century, the health of our planet has sharply declined—putting historically recent, and fragile, public health gains at risk. It poses a health emergency for planet earth and threatens a healthy and liveable future for generations to come. Since 2020, planetary health has garnered increased attention in African scientific institutions and networks. In this web seminar, Dr. Martin Herrmann will present the boundary-breaking concept of planetary health and its recent rise to global attention. He will introduce the Planetary Health Network in Eastern Africa and lay out a vision for its future.

When:                 Wednesday, 14 April 2021

Time:                  6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, EAT
